Former Venezuelan opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González has fled into exile after being granted asylum in Spain, handing over a significant blow to thousands and thousands who positioned their hopes in his upstart marketing campaign to finish 20 years of single-party rule.

González now joins the record of Venezuelan political fighters exiled in Spain, which contains Leopoldo López and Antonio Ledezma.
